QLD: Gold Coast council passes Spielberg s Dive! restaurant

The imagination of Oscar-winning director STEVEN SPIELBERG is set to hit Surfers Paradise,
with the Gold Coast City Council clearing the way for one of his restaurants.

It will be the first of his themed Dive! restaurants to be built outside the United States.

The $5 million venture is the centre of the Paradise Centre re-development at Cavill Mall.

If the site's Japanese owners KM Australia seal the deal with Mr SPIELBERG, dining patrons
will be given the illusion of being underwater.

They'll see images of coral and marine creatures through portholes and water gushing down
glass walls and hear emergency dive warnings and songs like Octopus's Garden as they eat.

Gold Coast City Council Mayor GARY BAILDON says he expects some controversy over the Dive!
restaurant, with plans featuring a three-storey back view of a submarine jutting into Cavill
Mall.
