VIC: Fire in western Victoria contained
MELBOURNE, Dec 11 AAP - Firefighters have contained a fire which today destroyed 450ha
of land near the Victorian township of Dergholm near the South Australian border.
A Country Fire Authority (CFA) spokeswoman said firefighters had stopped the fire from
spreading but were still battling to bring it until control.
The fire started early this afternoon about four km north of Dergholm, near Casterton, in
Victorias far west.
The CFA was on alert after issuing a total fireban in the south-western, north-western and
central districts last night.
A total fire ban has been declared for the whole state tomorrow with Melbourne expecting a
top temperature of 41 degrees before a cool change late in the day.
Temperatures hit 40 degrees or more across the state including 43 degrees in Horsham and
Warracknabeal in the states west.
CFA spokeswoman Siusan (Siusan) MacKenzie said 40 mainly small fires had broken out today
with the Dergholm fire being the biggest fire.
